Watersports Events Saturday 21st August 2027 – 2pm Start

Getting underway in the afternoon with a variety of rowing and sculling Races, an outboard motor balloon race and a swimming race.
The final event is ‘Walking The Greasy Pole’ which is rigged over the side of the Thames Barge Committee Boat.

Entries for the Watersports are free and entering is not required – just be on the start line in a suitable boat for the event.

Full details of all races are printed in the Regatta Programme which is available in local shops, or you can purchase a pdf download.

PLEASE NOTE: To enter for the Greasy Pole Event this year you will need to complete an Entry Form which is printed in the Regatta Programme
and take it to the Regatta stall in the car park and collect a Wrist Band. Programmes will be available at the Regatta stall.
This measure is in place to control the number of participants on the barge for safety reasons. Entries are on a ‘First Come, First Served’ basis.

All 2026 Town Regatta Trophies should be returned to Peter Clarke’s Boatyard by Sunday 25th July.

2026 Watersports

On Friday afternoon the Thames sailing barge ‘Wyvenhoe’ was guided into its central position in front of the town hard by Peter Clarke’s boatyard team, providing the Committee Boat for the Regatta.
This year’s conditions were were ideal, not too hot and light breeze.
