| ..........WEST MERSEA .......TOWN REGATTA ......Saturday 23rd August 2008 |
| For many sailors, this is the only race they will do in the year, giving them an opportunity to compare their performance against other similar boats. Full details of all times and races may be found in the Regatta Programme along with an Entry Form.
The 2007 Regatta Day started with a Southerly force 4 which increased to force 5 during the morning, but luckily the forecast rain did not materialise.
Quite a few reefed mainsails were to be seen due to the conditions and there were quite a few non-starters, but fortunately all cruiser and dinghy classes were able to sail their races. Spinnakers were set by some of the yachts as they headed East along the Bradwell shore causing some difficulty in taking them down as they hardened onto the wind past the power station.
The largest entry as usual were the Fisherman's Open Boats with 30 entered, but due to the windy conditions 11 retired and 10 did not start. The 13 strong Smack fleet sailed quite a long course with all boats finishing in under two and half hours.
Overall, 163 boats were entered in the Regatta and all races were completed in plenty of time for competitors to get back for the Watersports in the afternoon.
